As we sit here today, I have to ask the question, ‘How far off are we from something like this becoming reality?’
With the recent news of teammates Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton supposedly drawing guns on each other in the locker room, I think its safe to say that we have a problem. A major one.
In case you missed it, let me repeat…IN THE FUCKING LOCKER ROOM!!!! (sorry for yelling) With teammates and trainers around. Where they get ready to play basketball for a living 41 times per year. Guns. Pointed at each other. Teammates. At their place of work.
Personally, the only time I cap a muthafucka is if he/she disrespects my girl, my mom, or wu-tang, but never at my place of business.
Imagine you’re at work, sitting at your desk in your cubicle (I have to imagine too since I’ve never had a real job). You and your co-worker to the left get into a disagreement over who was supposed to email client X. The disagreement gets a little heated, becoming more of an argument. Before you know it, you have a glock staring you straight in the face. Naturally, you reach under your desk and grab the nine you have taped there for such an altercation. Does this seem reasonable?
The gun problem with athletes is getting worse by the minute. A gun (or 3) in the car (Delonte West), at the airport (Damon Stoudemire), a full arsenal in the home (Tank Johnson), at a club tucked in sweatpants (Plaxico), and now, in the locker room. The line keeps getting pushed back, and then crossed, and then pushed back again.
So I ask one more time, ‘How far away are we from an incident similar to the one in ‘The Last Boy Scout’?
I fear we may be able to answer this question someday.
