NBA Playoff Chatter #3

Luke:

Sidetrack to free agency. Specifically a hypothetical that has already
been completely squashed. Why bother talking about it? I think it
would dramatically change the course of NBA events for the next 10
years. I’m talking about…

Bosh to the Thunder.

I think bosh would make the thunder an outer title contender on their way to being one of the favorites the following year. It will always be tough to get past the lakers, but their two best players would stand up next to lakers best two better than any top twosome in the league. Starting five of Westbrook, harden, durant, green, bosh, with maynor, thabo and ibaka off the bench. Yeesh. Thunder would put up win-loss record for durant to win some mvps. I think it wouldn’t even matter where bron went, durant would become the face of basketball because people can’t help but fall in love with this team. I think they would win at least one title if not multiple down the road (after Kobe retires, of course). I think in this scenario Kevin durant would
unseat lebron as best player in the league in 3 or 4 seasons (I secretely think this is coming anyway. He just finished his 3rd
fucking season!). Bucher squashed this report soon after it was mentioned as a possibility, so I guess it’s not happening. Then again, he guaranteed us that Kobe Bryant would not be in a laker uniform by the 2008 trade deadline, so, grain of salt. Point is, if bosh goes to Thunder, they become the most important non-defending champion team in the league, no matter where lebron goes. Bosh has the power to steal bron’s thunder.

Chris:

I see what you did there in the last sentence with ‘thunder’. Double meaning. I get it.

Bosh would make a number of teams instant title contenders. He’s pretty awesome. I don’t think he’s the best fit for the thunder’s missing piece. I’d rather see a bigger presence in the middle. A shot blocking, rebounding, intimidator. Not to bite on Simmons, but Camby would’ve been a great get for them. Aside from the things I just mentioned, he can always get up and down the floor when they want to run.

To say that adding Bosh would lead to MVP’s and becoming the face of the league for KD is a stretch. Bucher and Scoop Jackson had a LeBron v KD debate this week on espn.com, arguing who would be better in a few years. Bucher had the Durant side. Now, as much as I like Bucher (and you’re ok too), he and everyone else need to pipe the fuck down. Not gonna dive into this right now, because we may go back and forth for days, but I’ll just throw it out there.

Kevin Durant is overrated.

I fux with Bethlehem Shoals’ playoff talking points:

http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Playoff+Talking+Points/
Pretty legit. One thing I loved about the most recent entry was his bit about the basketball world’s current love affair with deron williams. I mean it when I say “affair” because it really feels like we’re committing player ranking adultry while our hubbie chris paul is out of the house at his physical therapy appointments. But back to shoals’ point for a second…he’s talking about the fact that analysts and studio guys and the like feel like they need to make up for the lost time they spent underrating deron williams by showering him with an excessive amount of praise to the point that the praise starts to lose its meaning. as our boy slick rick will tell you, this type of shit happens everyday. it’s not that the players don’t deserve praise. on the contrary, the deserve better than the praise they get. but better doesn’t just mean more over-saturated noise pollution. that’s when players stop being treated as bodies of work and become fads. face it. it’s fucking HIP to say that deron is the best point guard in the league. if chris paul was healthy this season, would this many people be saying deron is the best point guard in the league with such conviction? doubt it. that doesn’t mean deron wouldn’t still deserve a lot of praise for playing the best basketball we’ve ever seen from him, doing the kind of things chris paul does. the best point guard debate should be frozen until they’re both back completely healthy. it doesn’t matter which you think is better when you’ve only been able to watch half of the debate for the last half-season. what i’m trying to say is, everyone needs to pipe down about everything…except kevin durant. he’s my hero.

Chris:

This ’short-term memory’ of sports analysts (and fans) is a pet peeve of mine, and deron is what made it rear its ugly head again. Compunded by people not thinking for themselves and following the trend of the moment, you’re 100% right when you say that its ‘hip’ to say deron is better than cp3. All these ‘experts’ saying this are wrong, although really cool.

Is deron playing better than he ever has before? Probably. There’s just no one better to properly put him in his place since everyone ‘forgot’ how good cp3 is. Deron’s not THAT much better than he was 1yr ago, or 4 months ago, when he was the consensus 2nd best pg in the L. Cp3 is not worse, he just got hurt. If being considered the best pg meant anything, then you can say deron got lucky when paul went down with his injury.

By the beginning of 2011, is there any doubt cp3 will be considered the best pg in the game? None.

Luke:

I don’t buy Lebron as 1st team all-defense. He’s deceptively bad at it. He does the trailing block thing and there’s no question it’s cool and impressive as hell, but I don’t really trust him to check his man day in and day out.
