NBA Playoff Chatter #1

We’ve been emailing each other. It looks like this:

Chris: Let’s get some nba playoff chatter goin here-its fuckin big-as of saturday somethings on tv every night for the next 2 months-by the time its all over we may be living in different states-or different continents-who knows-no time for sleep-only thing that would make

this email sequence better is if we included jason whitlock

So what we wanna start with?

-lakers crawling in-durants 1st playoff-is the west wide open-can any of the top 4 in the east be upset in rd1-lebrons title to lose-what would the bucks be capable of with healthy bogut

Let’s fuckin go

——————————-

Luke: hyphen thing is getting a little out of control. you suck at punctuation, period.

I think lebron should be suspended for the playoffs.

—————————–

Chris: I’m a great at punctuation-but who’s got the time-if it makes you feel better ill try to be proper-stop being so sensitive

I don’t want bron to be suspended. No more excuses. If he doesn’t win this year the whole world can finally all admit that he’s not better than kobe. Is signing Wall to a marketing contract really that big of a deal?

I don’t see him as much of a personality at all. He may be great on the court (although his speed/athleticism are the only things I’m positive he’s great at), but off the court, I’m not so sure. I mean, I’m putting a marketing company of sorts together currently, and I didn’t for 1 minute consider approaching Wall to come on board.

Was that better without the hyphens, dick?

————————-

Luke: As far as I’m concerned, the two most exciting players, coaches and teams in the western conference are facing off in round one with Lakers vs. Thunder. The Thunder are the last team I wanted the Lakers to face in round one. Not because I think they’ll give the lakers extra trouble–although Westbrook is gonna fuck dfish up–but because for months I’ve been brimming with excitement about the prospect of seeing Kevin Durant do the damn thang in the playoffs. You know how much I love KD. The playoffs are where legends are born. I don’t want to be rooting against kev dropping 40 on the road in the playoffs, but what can I do? I actually think this will be good practice for the lakers. They’ll get pushed, woken up, but there’s no doubt they should win this series and hopefully be back to strictly business by the end of the first round.

————————

Chris: Obviously everyone’s ‘other’ favorite team is okc. I would’ve liked to have the chance to root for them too, but this is business. They’re a great matchup for the lakes in rd1, especially considering the spurs were looming as a potential 1st rd opponent. Curious to see how the lakers come out. They should (although I’m not confident they will)knock these guys out in 4 or 5 gms. This will be durants introduction to the non-diehard hoops fan. The good nba fan, the one who knows what’s going on, but doesn’t have the nba package, will be watching the playoffs. KD hasn’t been on national tv much at all, so most people haven’t had a chance to see his game. Wonder if artest is gonna give durant trouble. He has the ability to frustrate him. Be physical. Talk shit. Intimidate him. Yes, KD will get his points, just have to make him earn them.

——————–

Luke: I think it’s sort of what the Lakers might choose to do with Lebron. Guys like Lebron and KD are used to having defenses planned around them but the other guys on the team aren’t. If you can just let that star have his points and force the rest of the guys to step up, I’m not sure if they can do it. Westbrook will be sick taking the ball to the hole but hopefully our length in the front court will help with that. Like you said, it should be an easy series. I’ll say 5 games, more likely 6 than 4.

Have you read simmons’ playoff breakdown? The first five paragraphs could easily be replaced with a picture of lebron’s penis in the sports guy’s mouth and no one would know the difference. Bron’s definitely gonna go berserk in the first round. Have you noticed how he’s trying to be all business this year a la kobe last year? People were even criticizing kobe last year for his stoicism. Everyone loved how loose Lebron and the cavs looked. Fuck everyone.

I do love the epicness of some of the early round western conference matchups. mavs vs. spurs in the first round, with a likely suns vs mavs/spurs conference semi? remember when all of these combinations were must see games? I still like the spurs as a dark horse. I probably will until Duncan retires.

———————

Chris: Yeah I read simmons. We know he’s always been on lebrons dick. But really, can we argue? He really was THAT good this year. What simmons doesn’t address is what happens when/if the cavs don’t win the title this year. What will he have to say about lebron then?

The spurs/mavs winner poses the biggest threat to the lakers. That’s clearly the most intriguing rd1 series.

Do you trust any team to win the title? There’s no one I can confidently say will be there in the end. Obviously the cavs and lakers are the favorites, but still not surer I trust the cavs to get past orlando, and I can’t be sure what laker squad shows up. Hopefully I have a very different opinion about the lakers as early as next weekend, when they’re up 3-0, going for the sweep.

There’s more where this came from. Stay tuned.
