Seeing Chris Paul go down was unbearable. There’s a clip of him on the ground after he suddenly realized he was hurt. He threw his mouthpiece and said, “FUCK!”
I concur.
This guy has been busting his ass to try to make his team look half-decent. His averages so far this season: 26.1 points, 9.3 assists, 3.2 rebounds, 1.6 steals, 62.2% from the field, 85.7% from the line, and 65.5% from beyond the arc.
DJ, could you bring that back?
65.5% on 3-pointers!!! That means he makes 65.5 out of every 100 3-point shots he takes!
I’m not kidding.
That’s how percentage works.
But the Hornets have little to show for the brilliant play of their superstar. They boast a 3-7 record on the heels of a coaching change (Byron Scott out. Hornets GM Jeff Bower in. Former USC head coach who resigned after getting into some shady shit Tim Floyd in as well (as the top assistant…sketch)). Do you remember what happened to the hornets team in half a game last year when Chris Paul left with an injury? Because I sort of do. I’m not sure on all the details and our research team doesn’t exist right now so I’m not going to check, but here’s the basic idea. The Hornets were up…20. Chris Paul goes down at the end of the first half. The Hornets completely fall apart. They look so lost without Chris Paul guiding them through the game. They lost the game by 30. That’s a 50-point swing the way I remember it! It’s what I picture when I think of how it would look if the Colts lost Peyton Manning. I don’t mean for this to be insulting to Colts or Hornets players, but complimentary to their superstars. They’re bad mother fuckers. So it’s really difficult to watch Chris Paul go down. Get well soon, Chris.
Some random thoughts from the same night I watched Chris Paul go down:
Trevor Ariza might be good. His line against Sacramento: 28 points on 10/21 shooting, 4-12 3pt, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 steals, 1 block, and no turnovers. I know it’s only one game and I know it’s against Sacramento. And I know that the amount of shots he took and missed kind of makes him look selfish. These are the growing pains of a young star who didn’t suffer through 4 years of teamwork in college. The good ones have flashes like this as they, hopefully, kick that selfishness out of their system and learn to play to win. I’m not saying Ariza is there (not at all, not even a little bit), but this is definitely on the radar.
Tracy McGrady is the highest paid player in the NBA this season.
I saw Adam Morrison play in a Lakers uniform for the first time. It was awesome.
Lebron is changing his jersey number to 6. He thinks number 23 should be retired.
Doc Rivers thinks we should retire number 6.
Tony Douglas isn’t ready to give up number 23. It’s okay. He’ll be grandfathered in.
Jim Carey starred in a movie called The Number 23.
I think they should retire number 45. In baseball and basketball. And golf. And gambling. If MJ gets 23 at a blackjack table do you think they give it to him?
If you found this post to be kind of all over the place, here’s why: NBA as S.O.C.
