Fantasy Football Mid-Season Report

It’s the midway point of the fantasy season (sort of), so let’s take a look at who the big dogs are moving forward on the run to the playoffs. The following is a top 10 list at each skill position of the guys I think will have the best season from this point on. Good luck to all…unless you’re in one of my leagues.
QUARTERBACKS
1. Peyton Manning. Too consistent on a weekly basis to not be #1.
2. Tom Brady. If the last 2 weeks were an indicator, Tom Brady will finish #1, but I still would go with Peyton for the sure thing.
3. Aaron Rodgers. Putting up great numbers with awful offensive line play. Assume the line gets better.
4. Matt Schaub. #1 QB so far. High powered offense. No reason to believe he slows down.
5. Drew Brees. Team is more balanced than we thought. Best QB in the league one week, but a non-factor the next due to the game plan.
6. Philip Rivers. His defense is mediocre. They need to throw. He will put up numbers.
7. Tony Romo. This league doesn’t start to make sense until weeks 8 or 9. Here’s a prime example.
8. Joe Flacco. Kid is for real. Defense is mostly legend, not reality. Flacco will lead them to the playoffs and will put up big numbers while doing it.
9. Carson Palmer. His 5-touchdown performance last week was the start of things to come. The old pre-injury Carson is back.
10. Kyle Orton. Solid. Dependable. Consistent.
RUNNING BACKS
1. Ray Rice. McGahee is an afterthought. Rice is the 1st option in a very high-powered offense. He gets better every week.
2. Maurice Jones-Drew. He demanded the rock. He got the rock. He will keep getting the rock. The ROC is in the building.
3. Adrian Peterson. The team is just too balanced for him to be #1. Every defense is designed to stop him. He’s still the best running back in the league, but his contributions aren’t translating into fantasy numbers the way a lot of us thought they would this season.
4. DeAngelo Williams. They finally figured out how to compete: pouring on a lot of Brown Sugar.
5. Thomas Jones. No more Leon. Jets need to run in order to win.
6. Kevin Smith. Kev is the centerpiece of an offense on the rise. His schedule gets a lot easier, too.
7. Cedric Benson. Who knew?
8. Steven Jackson. What else are they going to do?
9. Knowshon Moreno. Crazy talent. He finally has firm grasp on the 1st RB position. Potential to explode in the 2nd half of the season.
10. Joseph Addai. Donald Brown is good, but Addai is better…for now.
WIDE RECEIVERS
1. Wes Welker. One bad white boy.
2. Andre Johnson. Just a beast. He’s unstoppable (except when Darrelle Revis is on him).
3. Brandon Marshall. Right where he would have been pre-season if not for all of the drama.
4. Larry Fitzgerald. Too great to be 4th on any list, but what can I say?
5. Vincent Jackson. We’ve been waiting for someone to step up as the 1st receiver in San Diego.
6. Mike Sims-Walker. Only played in 4 of 7 weeks thus far and has about 90pts. You do the math (and then tell us what it comes out too).
7. Randy Moss. Do you really need an explanation?
8. Miles Austin. Dallas is clicking. His name is cool. What else do you need? Would you have been surprised if T.O. was in this spot one year ago? Didn’t think so.
9. Reggie Wayne. Too many weapons to be any higher, but would love to have him on any of my teams.
10. Sidney Rice. Clearly Favre’s favorite target. His production is starting to equal his ability.
TIGHT ENDS
1. Dallas Clark. Every-week production.
2. Owen Daniels. 1a to Andre Johnson in Houston’s passing game and he doesn’t seem to be slowing down.
3. Antonio Gates. Every game this season in double digits.
4. Jason Witten. Great buy-low candidate.
5. Tony Gonzalez. I mean c’mon. He’s Tony G.
6. Heath Miller. Fantasy production matching reality production.
7. Vernon Davis. Finally.
8. Brent Celek. Solid passing game. Solid player.
9. Jeremy Shockey. He’ll have some ups and downs, but it seems like Brees never completely leaves him out of the stat sheet.
10. Greg Olsen. Rebounds from disappointing 1st half to finish with respectable numbers.
